Dr. Smith is the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at CHKD, part of the CHKD/UVA regional collaborative for cardiac care. Prior to his arrival at CHKD, Dr. Smith was the Clinical Director of the Heart Center and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio from 2001 to 2016. While at Akron, he developed, implemented and executed an organizational blueprint for an integrated pediatric and congenital cardiovascular medicine and surgery program. He also spearheaded a collaborative affiliation agreement between Akron Children's Hospital and MetroHealth Medical Center to provide pediatric surgical and medical subspecialty services.
